Under 7 Mini Soccer Match Reports

Wallsend BC Greens U7 3 - 1 Newcastle City Juniors U7

Scorers: David Phillips (2), Louis Smith (1)

Man of the Match : Louis Smith

A tough encounter against a well organised Newcastle City team who certainly tried to play attractive football.  The early exchanges were tight but were shaded by the Greens whose superior agression and desire once again pushed the opposition backwards.  The first goal arrived courtesy of some good play down the right flank from Louis Smith and Ben Dodds with the ball breaking to David Phillips who lashed home a long range effort high into the net.  David Phillips secured his second of the game after putting the City back line under pressure and stealing the ball before slotting home comfortably from close range.    The second qaurter was a tense affair with the wind in the Greens faces making it difficult to get into the City half, but despite that as the quarter went on the Greens began asserting more pressure onto City with their keeper making a couple of really good saves.    The third qaurter began with the Greens in control and after good pressure from Louis Smith a City defender put through his own net.  The rest of the qaurter belonged to City as the Greens began to tire after getting through a lot of work.  The back three of Sam Harries, Will Henderson and Tom Cotcher held firm with some full blooded challenges with Will in particular putting in a commanding performance. Cain Lawson was very decisive in coming off his line and snuffing out any danger from the City attack.   The final qaurter saw both sides tire dramatically with neither team seeming able to retain posession as both sides applied quick pressure on the ball.  The woodwork saved the Greens from conceding after a fine long range effort from a City striker.  Seconds later and City had notched a goal after a mix up in the Greens defence led to a self inflicted goal.  There was no panic in the Greens ranks as they re-grouped and managed to see out the remaining time, even coming close to a fourth when a Ben Dodds chip shaved the post.   This was a more challenging game for the Greens but ulitmately with the same result.  Some very pleasing and positive outcomes from the game and some things to work on.  A great result and the winning streak continues.

Wallsend BC Yellow U7 15 v 1 Whitley Bay FCBB U7

Man of the Match – Kyle Wilson

Goal Scorers – Brandon (5), Sam (4), Kyle (3), Cameron (1), Ellis (1), Joseph (1)

Today we asked the boys to show Whitley Bay how good a passing team we were and the boys responded magnificently, easily the best team performance so far.

You could sense before the kick off that they really wanted to put in a performance and right from the start we dominated the game. We kicked off and the ball was quickly passed out to the right wing for Kyle to pickup and make the first of many forward runs. Kyle crossed the ball to Sam who turned and shot towards goal, the ball getting blocked and picked up by the Whitley keeper.

The first quarter continued like this with both Sam & Kyle going close a couple of times before the deadlock was broken by Sam who collected the ball from a Kyle cross to slot the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

Brandon soon afterwards made it 2 nil, he collected the ball and shot from outside the box, this was deflected back to Brandon who took on a player and placed the ball passed the helpless keeper.

Goal number 3 followed a Whitley Bay throw in just inside our half, Brandon intercepted the throw, played the ball inside for Kyle to race forward with only the keeper to beat he coolly side footed the ball into the net.

With us camped inside the Whitley Bay half it was inevitable further goals would be scored and the 5th came from a quality corner by Ellis which Sam flicked confidently with his head into the goal. Brandon added a 6th before the interval collecting a deflected ball and left footing into the net.

The 2nd quarter was a much tougher challenge and our defence had to be strong with Whitley Bay making a couple of runs towards our goal, Both Dylan and Morgan again looking comfortable making sure Michael was not tested.

Our 7th goal came following a darting run by Cameron down the left who tricked his defender and was goal bound only to be brought down, Penalty. Cameron dusted himself down to take the spot kick and scored striking the ball into the top left hand corner, this was Cameron’s first goal of the season.

Whitley Bay were gaining in confidence and restricted us to only this goal despite our best efforts.

The 3rd quarter was again a tough period, the only goal for us coming from Sam who picked the ball up just inside Whitley Bay’s half. Sam raced towards goal and unleashed a shot into the roof of the net leaving the keeper no chance.

Whitley Bay pushed forward and our defensive partnership of Dylan and Morgan looked strong, both clearing any danger well and confidently. Unfortunately with us pushing for further goals we were left short at the back and Whitley Bay broke free and raced goal bound placing the ball passed a disappointed Michael who on this occasion was left exposed and had no chance of making the save.

The 4th quarter we came out fighting again and determined to finish in style. This quarter is by far the best 10 minutes of football this side has played.  We found ourselves camped inside the Whitley Bay half with the midfield of Cameron, Kyle & Sam commanding the pitch. For the next goal Kyle raced down the right and played an early ball splitting the defence wide open to Brandon who turned well in the box and slotted home. The next goal was for Sam who latched onto another cross from Kyle again putting the ball into the roof of the net. Kyle scored 2 goals, 1 following a trade mark run from midfield taking on 2 players the other was from an unselfish pass from Ellis from the left wing.

As the match was drawing to an end, Brandon darted into the box only for him to be fowled. Ellis stepped up only to see his penalty saved, Ellis soon made up for this by scoring 30 seconds later.

Another spot kick, this time Kyle being brought down within the box saw Joseph step up to score, firing the ball passed the keeper.

Hatricks for Brandon, Kyle & Sam and a very good performance from all the boys saw us beat Whitley Bay comfortably for the 2nd time in a week.

WALLSEND BOYS CLUB YOUTH SENATE

On Monday 15th June the Club formed its first Youth Senate, which will look to be the Members’ driving force behind the Club. It will also be involved with ideas, initiatives and the creative force behind the Club’s ambitions to build and sustain a new World Class youth facility in North Tyneside.

The following were in attendance at the meeting –

John Akinropo (Young Mayor of North Tyneside), Andrew Elliott (Member of Youth Parliament for North Tyneside/ North Tyneside Young Cabinet Member for the North West), Chris Johnston (Lord Lieutenant Cadet in Tyne and Wear), Chelsea Cairns, Phillip Elsdon, Jessica Gaddes, Rebekah Gaddes, Jack Gurr, Jack Oliver, Liam Parker, Abbey Ransome, James Robb and Nicole Wearmouth.

Wallsend Boys Club Youth Committee                           From Left to right - Chris Johnston, John Akinropo

                                                                                                                         Chelsea Cairns and Andrew Elliott.

The Committee took a vote in which Chelsea Cairns was elected Chair and Nicole Wearmouth Vice Chair. These were significant appointments as the Club has been perceived as predominantly male-oriented in the past - it was good to see the girls looking to give views from a female perspective as well as expressing the views of the other members of the committee.

The first meeting targeted issues such as which activities would each individual like to see and which activities would be prioritised. The committee then decided to outline the reasons for such activities and the impact the youth centre would have on the surrounding areas. Issues such as reducing under age drinking, reducing crime and the lack of activities available for young people were all discussed during the meeting.

Each member of the committee played an active part in the meeting in which there were many positive views and ideas expressed.

The Committee in the foreseeable future will look to put forward ideas and requests from themselves as well as young people from outside of the committee to enable the Club’s new Youth Centre to play a significant role in their lives - a place where they can feel safe and be involved in a number of activities, or a place just to hang out with friends.

CHELSEA CAIRNS - CHAIR OF YOUTH SENATE

My name is Chelsea Cairns and I am 16 years of age.  I have been with Wallsend Boys Club for over 7 years now playing football for the Girls Teams.  This year I have been involved in coaching both girls and boys which I feel is important for the development of football within the Club.

I have recently been given the opportunity to Chair the Youth Senate for the New Development Site, which I am looking forward to being the voice of my community and the existing members of the Club.

I believe my role as Chair person will include some of the final decisions that are going to be made from the ideas brought forward to the Committee and also requests from Young people and the public on what they would like to see in their new local Youth Club.

I am hoping that our committee can play a major role in developing ideas which could establish a World Class youth facility in North Tyneside.

THE BOYS CLUB SUPPORTS NORTHERN ROCK

Support the Rock

Wallsend Boys’ Club has thrown its weight behind the Rock.

The club contacted Northern Rock deputy chief executive David Baker today to tell him they would be depositing more than £20,000 which the club made at their recent charity dinner.

Club chairman Steve Dale said: “It is extremely saddening to see the panic that has ensued from the organisation seeking what is effectively a temporary overdraft facility from the Bank of England.

“I sincerely hope that the people who have been proud to see the company grow into such a substantial bank demonstrate that loyalty to the Rock in its hour of need, because without the Rock, and its foundation, our area will be a far poorer place in the future.”
